Summary:

  • YouTube’s 2025 Recap feature highlights top channels, interests, and music habits, reflecting users’ diverse interests and personalities.

  • Users can access their personalized recap on the homepage or in the You tab, summarizing viewing patterns with up to 20 cards.

  • The recap also includes new personality profiles and can be shared on social platforms like Instagram Stories and TikTok.

YouTube introduced its first 2025 Recap this week. The new feature gives users a personalized look at how they spent their year on the platform by highlighting top channels, favorite interests, music habits, and a new set of viewer personality types.

In its announcement, YouTube wrote, “You aren’t just one thing, and neither is your watch history.” The company said the recap reflects the mix of interests that shape a user’s year, whether that includes custom keyboard tutorials, KATSEYE performance edits, or Labubu blind box hauls.

The feature analyzes watch history and generates up to 20 cards that summarize a user’s viewing patterns. These include top channels, categories, moments, and trends. Users can find their recap on the homepage or in the You tab across mobile and desktop. It is also available at youtube.com/recap.

Tech creator Marques Brownlee shared his results on X and noted that he watched 1,880 channels this year. He said this was nearly five times the average viewer count.

For people who use YouTube Music regularly, the recap expands to include top artists, songs, genres, podcasts, and a breakdown of international listening trends.

YouTube also introduced new personality profiles based on the kinds of videos users engaged with most. The company said the feature went through nine rounds of feedback and more than 50 concept tests.

The profiles include options such as the Adventurer, the Skill Builder and the Creative Spirit. YouTube said the most common types are the Sunshiner, the Wonder Seeker and the Connector. The Philosopher and the Dreamer appear to be among the least common.

The platform said it saw “personalities” when analyzing viewing habits rather than only data points.

Each recap is built to be posted on social platforms. The cards are optimized for Instagram Stories, X and TikTok, continuing the year-end trend popularized by music streaming services. YouTube confirmed that recap access will expand globally later this week.

The launch arrives at a time when digital identities are often defined by viewing and listening behaviors. Recaps have become annual online traditions that encourage users to reflect on their habits and share them publicly. The YouTube version adds new context to creator impact because the cards highlight which channels influence viewing patterns most.
