After much anticipation, Mariah Carey has officially released the cinematic music video for her latest single, Type Dangerous. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Joseph Kahn, the visual premiered June 14 and quickly generated buzz across social media and YouTube.

The nearly seven-minute video is divided into seven distinct acts, each showcasing Carey confronting and conquering archetypes including Mr. Player, Mr. Dancer, Mr. Traitor, Mr. Racer, and Mr. Dealer. In the final showdown, she faces off against “Mr. Beast,” ultimately defeating him with four iconic words: “I don’t know him.” The phrase is a clever nod to her widely quoted “I don’t know her” moment from a 2003 interview, repurposed for today’s digital age.

MrBeast Cameo Surprises Fans

The “Mr. Beast” mentioned in the video isn’t just a metaphor, he’s played by none other than YouTube megastar MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson), who boasts over 405 million subscribers across platforms. Kahn had previously teased an “earth-shattering surprise” in the video, and the unexpected cameo delivered on that promise.

While the reference might seem tongue-in-cheek, it also serves as a savvy move by Carey. By including MrBeast, she taps into the massive reach of Gen Z audiences on YouTube while still asserting her legacy and dominance in pop culture. It’s a playful reminder that even in the age of influencers, Carey remains in a league of her own.

A Glimpse at Carey’s Upcoming Album

“Type Dangerous” marks the first official single from Carey’s forthcoming 16th studio album. The track made its live debut during the 2025 BET Awards, where Carey received the prestigious Ultimate Icon Award. The performance featured co-writer Anderson .Paak on drums and included a surprise appearance by hip-hop legend Rakim, who delivered a fiery verse over production that samples his 1987 classic Eric B. Is President.

In a statement, Carey expressed her excitement about the project: “I’m so excited to finally be releasing ‘Type Dangerous’ into the world. I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous!’”

This new body of work will be Carey’s first full-length release since 2018’s Caution, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and topped the R&B Albums chart. That project featured collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign, Gunna, Slick Rick and Blood Orange.

Glamour, Symbolism, and Signature Shade

True to form, Carey’s Type Dangerous video is visually opulent, featuring dramatic lighting, stylized costuming, and choreographed confrontations with each “Mr.” character. The lighting, a recurring theme in Carey’s work, once again plays a central role in setting the tone of each scene.

The closing act, featuring her infamous “I don’t know him” line, quickly became the most talked-about moment from the video. While humorous, the moment also carries deeper symbolism: a reclamation of narrative power, hierarchy, and self-definition in the digital age.

Fan Reactions Pour In

Online, fans were quick to comment on the unexpected MrBeast cameo. “MrBeast in a Mariah Carey music video was NOT on my bingo card,” one fan posted on X.

“That’s the “earth shattering surprise?” another added. TikTok and X users have been left utterly confused by this last part of the video wondering why MrBeast was involved in the first place and why he looked AI generated.
