The Houston Police Department said they were waiting on a medical examiner to make a formal announcement and notify the victim’s family, however, another individual close to the investigation confirmed the rapper’s passing.

Takeoff was known as a fan favorite from the group and was credited with initiating the stuttering, triplet delivery that came to infiltrate hip-hop and trickle into the pop sphere.

The event happened at roughly 2:35 AM at the bowling alley, which was on the third floor of San Jancinto and Dallas Street. The complex includes resultants and a Four Seasons hotel nearby.

There was a party going on that ended at roughly one in the morning, but the gathering carried over to later in the night. According to reports, forty people had gathered outside of the bar after closing when someone started to open fire. Security guards did not see who opened fire but confirmed they heard the shots.
In a statement released following his death, his lawyer Drew Findling wrote: “Takeoff was not only a brilliant musical artist with unlimited talent but also a uniquely kind and gentle soul. He will be greatly missed now and always.”
