Grey Sloan Memorial is back in crisis mode. Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy officially premieres Thursday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, with new episodes streaming on Hulu the next day. The long-running medical drama returns after last season’s shocking hospital explosion, and this time, survival is only half the battle.

When does ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22 premiere?

The new season kicks off Thursday, Oct. 9, with the premiere episode titled “Only the Strong Survive.” The story picks up seconds after the explosion that tore through Grey Sloan Memorial. Showrunner Meg Marinis told TV Insider the opener “focuses on who’s OK, who’s not, and what survival looks like when the hospital itself is barely standing.”

Episodes will air weekly on ABC every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, then hit Hulu on Fridays.

How many episodes will Season 22 have?

ABC confirmed Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 will feature 18 episodes. The second episode, “We Built This City,” marks a major milestone: the show’s 450th episode.

Marinis teased to Shondaland that the creative team plans to honor the show’s legacy with a nostalgic moment “that celebrates how far Meredith and the hospital have come.”

When do new episodes drop?

Following the premiere, episodes will release weekly through mid-November, when the show is expected to go on hiatus before returning in early 2026.
