Directing power couple Greta Gerwig, 40, and Noah Baumbach, 54, have married after 12 years of dating. The couple reportedly wed at New York City Hall, and attended a Billy Joel concert afterwards to celebrate. Throughout their personal relationship, the couple has collaborated on a number of films, both as co-directors, writers, and actors. In 2020, the pair were both individually nominated for Oscars, with Baumbach receiving a nod for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay for “Marriage Story” and Gerwig receiving a nod for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Little Women.”
Baumbach and Gerwig first met in 2010 on the set of “Greenberg,” in which Gerwig starred opposite Ben Stiller. They began their relationship a year later in 2011. Gerwig starred in his films “Frances Ha” “Mistress America” and “White Noise.” They went on to work together on one of 2023’s biggest blockbuster hits–”Barbie.” While Baumbach was initially hesitant about the project, he later admitted in a Q&A session for the film that it “became the best we’ve ever written.”
The couple have spoken frequently about their combined professional and personal support of one another in their individually critically acclaimed careers. Baumbach told Vogue in 2019 “I think the pleasure of writing for us is that it seeps into everything. I’d show her a cut of my movie, and then a few months later, I’m watching her movie. I don’t want to sound sickeningly happy, but it’s a truly great thing to watch someone you love make something and love the thing they make. I don’t know how else to say it without saying great a lot.”
A representative for Gerwig confirmed the couple’s marriage to a number of news outlets this morning. Page Six reported that a source told the publication that Gerwig and Baumbach were seen at the Billy Joel concert telling people backstage that they had just gotten married. Gerwig reportedly wore a white skirt suit.

Gerwig confirmed the couple’s 2020 engagement to James Corden at the time, but declined to refer to him as her fiancé because it “made a wedding sound imminent.” The couple share two children, Harold Ralph Gerwig Baumbach, who is three years old, and his baby brother, who was born this year. Baumbach additionally shares a child with his ex-wife actress Jennifer Jason Leigh.
