Over the weekend, tech Billionaire Elon Musk got on stage at Dave Chappelle’s comedy show in San Francisco. The silicon valley crowd booed Musk profusely until he left the arena stage. The video went viral on Twitter (which Musk currently runs) garnering varied reactions.

Chapelle during one moment of his show introduces Musk as the richest man in the world. To the crowd, Musk exclaimed “I’m rich, b-tch!”, doing an impression of Chappelle’s famous caricature of Rick James. The crowd booed even more.

“You weren’t expecting this, were you?” Musk asks Chappelle on stage.

In the video, Chappelle says some quips to Musk like “All these people that are booing, I’m just pointing out the obvious, they have terrible seats in the stadium” and “sounds like some of those people you fired are in the audience”. Very likely, considering Twitter is headquartered in San Francisco and Musk has recently laid off a large amount of Twitter staff. Still, Chappelle defended Musk against his audience.

“Booing is not the best thing you can do,” he said. “I wish everybody in this auditorium the joy of feeling free and may your pursuit of happiness set you free. Amen.”

Yesterday Musk tweeted about the ordeal saying,” was 90% cheers & 10% boos (except during quiet periods), but, still, that’s a lot of boos, which is a first for me in real life (frequent on Twitter).” That post reply and the original video have since been deleted.

On Twitter the reactions toward Musk and Chappelle were assorted.

Many claimed that their tweets with footage of the night were taken down unjustly.

Some connected this partnership to Musk trying to get favor from conservatives considering Chappelle’s previous comments about transgender people. Musk has campaigned for more “free speech” on Twitter.

Some rejoiced in Musk getting some retribution for his controversial choices and takes in the real world.

Dave Chappelle has not yet to publically respond to the whole ordeal.
