Actress Billie Lourd shared a heartfelt tribute to her late mother Carrie Fisher seven years after her sudden passing. Fisher notably starred as Princess Leia in George Lucas’ “Star Wars” franchise, and Lourd reaffirmed that in her grieving journey she feels her mother’s presence continues to light up the stars.

Throughout her life, Fisher was also known for her activism for the LGBTQ+ community, mental health and addiction treatment, animal rights, and gender equity. She often raised money for AIDS research in a time in which the illness was highly stigmatized. Her progressive activism and roles in a number of iconic films (including “When Harry Met Sally”, “Hook,” “Scream 3” and more) continue to inspire generations of fans. Now, fans of both Fisher and Lourd are praising the latter’s transparency regarding her grief.

Lourd has appeared in a number of popular films and television shows, including Olivia Wilde‘s “Booksmart”, Ryan Murphy‘s “Scream Queens,” and “Ticket to Paradise” opposite Julia Roberts and George Clooney. Earlier this year, the late Fisher was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lourd accepted the posthumous honor on her behalf, and Fisher’s longtime friend and “Star Wars” costar Mark Hamill was also in attendance, along with life size replicas of the film’s lovable robots R2-D2 and C3PO.
Hamill portrayed Fisher’s sibling Luke Skywalker in the ever popular film franchise. Hamill appeared in the 2015 “Star Wars” sequel “The Force Awakens” alongside Lourd and the late Fisher shortly before her passing. Fisher died at 60 years old after going into cardiac arrest due to a number of underlying health issues in 2016, and was later reported to have had traces of cocaine, MDMA and opiates in her system. She was previously transparent about her struggles with bipolar disorder and drug addiction throughout her life, and Lourd followed her mother’s wishes by speaking on her cause of death. A day after her passing, her mother, fellow actress Debbie Reynolds, passed away from a stroke.
In October, Fisher’s longtime friend singer-songwriter James Blunt released “Dark Thought” in her honor. Blunt told Music Week that “‘Dark Thought’ is the song I always wanted to write for Carrie Fisher, but never got round to writing for her while she was alive. That’s taken me a few years to write. It was about the moment I went back to her house after she had died and knocked on the gate. The ‘Girl That Never Was’ will speak for itself, it’s a very sad song. But then there are some really sweet ones.”
