Grammy winning singer-songwriter Adele revealed that she quit drinking during a concert at her Las Vegas residency.
After pointing out the VIP section’s pint of whisky sour at the venue, the singer spoke on her journey with sobriety. You know, I stopped drinking quite a long time ago… it feels like forever. Maybe like three and a half months ago?” Adele said.
The singer jokingly reflected that being sober is “boring,” after stating that she was a “borderline alcoholic” throughout her early 20s. She went on to say, “I miss it so much, I cut out caffeine, so enjoy your whiskey sour, I’m very, very jealous.” Adele’s albums are famously named for her ages at the time of its creation, with her earliest projects reflecting this period in her life.

The singer first confirmed the beginning of her sobriety in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. “I stopped drinking,” she said during the “One Night Only” broadcast. “That’s one great way of really sort of getting to know yourself, is just drinking water and being sober as anything.” Adele previously alluded to her father’s struggle with alcohol.
“I’ve always had a very close relationship with alcohol. I was always very fascinated by alcohol. It’s what kept my dad from me. So I always wanted to know what was so great about it,” Adele told Vogue in 2021. The singer revealed she realized she needed to go sober after she once drank four bottles of wine before 11 a.m. during quarantine for COVID-19 in 2020.
Social Media Reactions
Many expressed that they were proud of their favorite singer for prioritizing her health and well being. The residency’s strenuous schedule is likely what played a part in her decision to cut alcohol during her packed weekend performances.

Others reflected upon the difference in her lyricism since her sobriety. Some of the singer’s heartfelt power ballads reflecting the melancholia in her life were written at the time when she was drinking. Her sobriety came the same year she divorced her husband Simon Konecki, with whom she shares a son. The singer has since begun a relationship with powerful sports agent Rich Paul.
