Kelly Ripa shared a humorous and memorable anecdote from a past vacation during Tuesday’s episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark.” On the show, Ripa recounted a peculiar experience involving dolphins during a friend’s 50th birthday trip to Mexico.

The talk show host described the scene, saying, “Many years ago, we were at our friend’s 50th birthday in Mexico, OK, and they rented a boat for sunset cocktails. And all of a sudden in the water, we were surrounded by wild dolphins.”

The episode, which aired on ABC, featured Ripa with her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos. Ripa, delved into the details of the encounter, which took place after she had recently filmed a segment for the talk show in Miami, where she had an opportunity to swim with and “communicate” with dolphins in a controlled environment.

Ripa’s excitement over her dolphin interaction led her to an unusual decision. She jumped into the ocean, confident in her ability to communicate with the dolphins. “So, I, Kelly Ripa, jump into the water and I go, ‘I know how to talk to the dolphins!’ I’m like, ‘I’m gonna call them over!’” she recalled, demonstrating the high-pitched clicking sounds she believed would attract the marine mammals.

Despite her enthusiasm, Ripa’s friends quickly pointed out a critical difference. They reminded her that the dolphins they were seeing were wild, not trained dolphins like the ones she had interacted with in Miami. Ripa admitted with a laugh, “But in my mind, I thought I could talk to the dolphins because I had spoken so fluently to them.”

Consuelos, joined in the playful exchange, suggesting, “Yeah. You need to be able to do that in Spanish, and then it’d be fine.” This remark prompted laughter from the studio audience and highlighted the couple’s playful dynamic.

The conversation about dolphins and communication was sparked by Consuelos reading a report about advancements in artificial intelligence aimed at facilitating communication between humans and animals. Consuelos expressed his curiosity about understanding his rescue dog, Lena. “I know what she’s saying! ‘Get away from me, you weirdo!’” Ripa joked, adding a light-hearted comment about her husband’s interest.
